Can't Customize Breadcrumbs file in Child Theme

I want to be able to add some customizations to the breadcrumbs file within the child theme so I can leave the parent file in tact. When I add the file to my child theme, the changes aren’t recognized. Only the file in the parent Unicon theme is recognized. Can this be fixed?
